Introduction

　　TThe Department of Endocrinology at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital was established in 1993 and became one of Shenzhen’s first Key Medical Specialties in 2003. It serves as the base for the Endocrinology Specialty under Shenzhen’s “Three Renowned Programs”, which introduced Professor Zhou Zhiguang’s Endocrinology Team from Xiangya Second Hospital of Central South University.

　　The department houses the Xiangya Shenzhen Metabolic and Endocrinology Center, the Shenzhen University Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolic Disease Center (DOMC), and the Diabetes-Endocrinology-Metabolism Clinical Phenotype Analysis and Translational Research Institute (DEM-PATRI). It has been a Master’s Degree Program Base for Shenzhen University since 2014 and a National Residency Training Base for endocrinology since 2014.

　　The department serves as the Chair Unit of the Shenzhen Medical Association Diabetes Specialty Committee (since 2013) and the Shenzhen Physician Association Endocrinology and Metabolic Medicine Committee (since 2014). It also hosts the Shenzhen Da’ai Diabetes Patient Education Base (since 2013) and the Shenzhen Community-Based Diabetes Standardized Management Training Base (since 2016). Furthermore, it is part of the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases Shenzhen Branch (since 2017), the China Type 1 Diabetes Alliance, and the Shenzhen Type 1 Diabetes Alliance.

　　Team and Facilities

　　The department has 40 team members, including 3 senior-level physicians, 5 associate senior-level professionals (including 1 senior nurse), 3 PhD holders, and 10 master’s degree holders (with 2 currently pursuing their degrees). The team includes 1 full-time researcher (PhD), 2 specially appointed professors, and 1 specialized diabetes education nurse. The department has 40 beds and operates specialized clinical laboratories and facilities, including:
